couple’s sessions
setting the tone
A day of connection
If possible, making the day one of quality time together can create a deeper sense of connection going into your engagement session. it helps focus your mindset into one of greater ease and connectedness.
you can go for breakfast together, spend the day relaxing at home before getting ready, or go out for a drink before we meet up. if spending most of the day together isn’t an option, setting aside an hour of time for before your session begins can provide a moment to filter out the noise of the day.
Location & activities
the best engagement session locations are ones that speak to you as a couple. whether it’s a place you both admire, or it has sentimental value, feeling excitement and comfort in a space translates into your overall experience and that transmits to your photos.
Light
while emotion is of the utmost importance, light is what helps us communicate this in photo form. light is always a part of the planning process, and a guiding source during the session. usually, the best time for light is in the early morning or late afternoon, as the sun is lower in the sky, and naturally creates a dreamier feel.
on the other hand, if we are going to be indoors, we will want to consider when that particular space gets the best light pouring through windows.
practice
best not to overthink how you look in any moment, but sometimes a little practice can be relieving. you might consider taking some time before the session paying attention to your facial expressions in the mirror or practicing movement with your partner. This could look like hugging, dancing, taking a walk together. just notice how you both go about things like this, in an affectionate way, that feels natural to you.
the details
What to wear
feeling comfortable in what you wear during your session will truly make all the difference. if you feel good, it will show! so, dress up, dress down, just consider what feels like an expression of who you are, and something you’ll be happy to be in.
in regards to what colors, patterns, shapes to wear, i recommend considering the location and activities. WHAT MAKES SENSE FOR THE SPACE(S) WE’ll be in?
between you and your partner, cohesiveness is better than being too matchy, and if we are gonig for a stroll through the park in the morning, your outfit choice MIGHT be different than if we are going for drinks at a cocktail bar in the evening.

If you are already planning on doing a hair and makeup trial before the wedding day, consider doing it on the day of your session. this way you can arrive feeling freshened up, and you’ll have one less task on your wedding planning to-do list.
Hair & Makeup
above all
having engagement photos taken is a decision to honor this specific, and short-lived time in your lives and in your story as a couple. more than anything, your engagement session is a time to revel in.
to be present and embrace the moment is the best gift you can give yourselves.
we will arrive with a plan as loose or as tight as we need depending on the details, and i will have various film cameras around me, excited to connect in person, celebrate this sweet phase of your relationship with you, and capture the unique beauty of it.
I can’t wait to create these keepsakes with you!
